The Grandfather Clock
By Brett A. Starr on March 3, 2023

Grandfather Clock.png

The tick and tock of the grandfather clock

A chime in time at a quarter of the hour

He stands with pride while his pendulum strides

His gears they dance while his hands advance

At moments where I see him stare

His time it seemed to stop right there

I crank the lever with each endeavor

To raise his weights – resuscitates

Again, his song the time moves on

Advance my years it sure appears

The grandfather clock – each tick and tock

It chimes the hour with pensive power

I notice my skin appears quite thin

The age of the bark increased in marks

No longer I hear the sound in my ear -

The tick and tock of the grandfather clock.

Footnote: I had just been mentioning how I felt a poem starting to sprout to Norm Wagner. I had no idea what it would be. An hour later, this poem came out in about 30 minutes. I have no idea why. It appears to be a gift. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
